Guardian Home Program

Woofy World Labradoodles – Guardian Home Program

The Guardian Home program at Woofy World Labradoodles will allow local families (within the Okanagan Valley) to have a top quality Miniature Australian Labradoodle live as a wonderful family dog, in exchange for the cost of helping us house and care for our breeding dogs, in loving and healthy environments. The regular purchase fee of $2650 is completely waived, so there is no purchase fee, in exchange for caring for one of our breeding dogs (under our terms as noted). Although the Guardian Home puppy/dog will be part of the Guardian Home’s family forever, the dogs ownership and breeding rights are retained by Woofy World Labradoodles for the entire time that the puppy/dog is a part of our breeding program. Each one of our breeding dogs will vary slightly in his/her participation in our breeding program, and as such the agreements with the Guardian Homes will change accordingly. Once the Guardian Dog has completed his/her breeding career (age 4-6 yrs old), he/she will be spayed or neutered, at the expense of Woofy World Labradoodles, and then ownership will be fully transferred to the Guardian Family.

How does the guardian program work?

A Woofy World Labradoodles breeding puppy/dog is placed with an approved family when it is over 10 weeks old. The puppy/dog will return to Woofy World Labradoodles periodically for health testing, breeding, and whelping (birthing and nursing). We encourage Guardian Families to bring their puppies/dogs to visit us on a regular basis so that they are familiar with our home and feel comfortable coming to stay with us when the time comes.

  • Females will return to our home to whelp 2-4 litters. They will stay with us for 7-9 weeks, until puppies are weaned. After up to a maximum of 4 litters, they are spayed at our expense and ownership is fully transferred to the Guardian Family (usually at about 5 years of age). This will relinquish all of the Guardianship requirements and then the Guardian Dog will forever live with its Guardian Family as a family pet.
  • Males return to us whenever their services are required. They typically retire at about 6 years of age. When they retire from breeding, they are neutered at our expense and ownership is fully transferred to the Guardian Home. This will relinquish all of the Guardianship requirements and then the Guardian Dog will forever live with its Guardian Family as a pet.

Why do we offer the guardian program?

There are three main reasons that we offer the guardian program:

  1. The Dog: A guardian program will allow us to make sure that our dogs are not raised solely in a kennel environment. We believe that all dogs should have a loving family that will care for them for their entire life. This starts in our home at birth and then continues for the rest of the dog’s life. It is our strong belief that kennels can be used for boarding or daycare services, but should not be used for the life of a dog. Having a guardian home solves this issue and makes sure that all of our dogs are properly cared for all of the time.
  2. The Guardian Family: The Guardian Family is able to enjoy and care for a high quality Miniature Australian Labradoodle at little to no extra cost (regular expenses of owning a dog such as food/vet care are the Guardian Family’s expense). The regular purchase fee of $2650 is waived for the lesser price of $500, in exchange for caring for one of our breeding dogs (under our terms as noted). The Guardian Dog will spend a short period of its’ life in our breeding program and then be retired. This means that the Guardian Family will not only be able to enjoy their dog for its’ entire life, but will also have the opportunity to see the dog’s offspring go off to be enjoyed by other families. By accepting a Guardian dog into your home, you will help us to develop and better this amazing breed.
  3. Woofy World Labradoodles: The guardian program benefits us by allowing us to have our breeding dog raised to be socially healthy towards both people and other dogs. While they are with their guardian Families, the dogs will get to know how to behave with people. When they come back to visit us we will be able to continue the human aspect, but also continue the dog’s social pack experience with the dogs that live with us.

If you think you might be interested in our guardian program, please fill out an application and indicate that you would like to participate. We will then get in contact with you and start the process of confirming your eligibility.
